To use the online identification function, the user needs software which creates a secure connection between an NFC-enabled smartphone or card reader, their national identity card and the eID service provider. This software allows data to be exchanged in encrypted form between the national identity card and the eID service.

The Federal Government offers a user-friendly data exchange app free of charge: AusweisApp2.

The app, which was developed by the company Governikus KG, is fast, powerful and browser neutral.

The AusweisApp2 app is compatible with Windows and OS X for desktop use.

Many smartphones with NFC interfaces can use the mobile version of the AusweisApp2 app. The app can be downloaded free of charge from the Google Play Store for Android devices (Android 5.0 and later versions) and from the Apple App Store for devices with iOS operating systems (iOS 13.1 and later).

AUTHADA ident

The identification service AUTHADA ident creates a rapid, powerful and secure connection between a national identity card and an application for the eID function. The app is available in a mobile version for smartphones and in a version for use on a desktop. No special software is necessary.

Companies and authorities can integrate AUTHADA ident into their own apps with a white-label SDK, or can use it as a standalone app.

The AUTHADA ident app is available to download from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
